RESTORATIVE RENEWAL
BEING IN THIS FOR THE LONG HAUL
St Mary’s College has been committed to the development of a restorative culture for sixteen years. During 2018 and 2019 we took time as a leadership team and staff to review our practices and look at areas of our work that needed refreshment and renewal. Not only had our staff changed in that time, so had the world. Restorative responses in the context of social media, the ever changing nature of student relationships, the multiplicity of ways young people shape and express their identity, the capacity of technology to support our documentation and information sharing were all things we looked at. We also challenged ourselves to consider the ways in which a restorative culture is not something we do to students, it is a philosophical standpoint which we are called to live; every day and in every facet of our organisation and work. In this workshop we look at the St Mary’s process of renewal, what we learnt about ourselves along the way and what new processes we are developing as a result.
